people for people reviews and announcements: 1993 - 1996
" In a world threatened by overpopulation, it seems ironic to see
computer generated images devoid of the human form. The fact of the
matter is that human figures are difficult and time consuming to model.
But there is an alternative. People for people markets a collection of
76 render-ready, low-resolution mesh objects divided among three libraries:
Suitpeople, Casulpeople, and Studentpeople. All of the mesh objects are
carefully modeled to modestly present both the male and female forms
in a variety of skin tones, positions, and wardrobe choices. "
" While the mesh objects include little detail, they are easy to
manipulate and render without the appearance of gaps and seams,
or holes and without forcing the backface rendering option in 3DS.
The objects also have preapplied smoothing groups, but do not have
preassigned mapping coordinates; all the associated materials are
solid colors. It is important to note that the meshes are not intended for
use as jointed objects and do not contain hierarchical linkages. "
" All of the people on the CD are provided in the 3DS, PRJ, DWG and DXF
file formats. In 3DS, the meshes read in as single objects and are logically
subdivided at the element level. However, the CD also contains a second
directory of 3DS meshes, logically sub-divided at the object-level for easy
importation into other applications (such as Electric Image and trueSpace). "
