people for people for old 3ds r4, max and viz - viz render with adt(.3ds/.prj/.max)

pic of p4p manual and cd 1998 ver
In old 3d Studio or MAX and VIZ each people for people set is stored in a .3ds, .prj or .max file.

Each p4p subset: suitpeople, suitpeople in wheelchairs, student and casualpeople, and studentpeople sitting is an identically organized 3D Studio or Max file.
Each file holds the people in a diagonal line through 3DS Space, so you can view each one from any side.

Each file has a floor, lights and camera so you can look at and arrange or edit the people as you wish.

Each file is like a box of toy soldiers or chess pieces.

Each person is an Object; in 3D Studio comprised of elements; in Max or Viz comprised of sub-objects.

Max 2 has Object tags that show each person's name as the mouse moves over the model-Object. The "Select Objects" Window shows the names of each person in alphabetical order.
The "Summary Info" Window shows the people names in order as they are lined up in the views and in the color reference charts: from dresslady to shirtman to suitlady to suitman.

To pop people into your own projects, use the "Merge" file command.
At Merge time all the people in a p4p file will list in order in the Merge window, just as they are ordered in the Summary Info window from dresslady through suitman.

Pick the person or people you wish to Merge and they land in the target file.
A Map of 3D Studio (and Viz) space comes in the manual, so you can locate the people when they land.

You can move each person like a doll or chess piece, but still edit them at the element or sub-object level.
In Max and Viz, Select a person and load him or her into the Modify module, and edit individually.
In old 3D Studio, you can edit all the people in one swoop and move between them more easily.

If you need people whose parts are each an Object - Use the people models in the individual .3DS files. Each of these is at (0,0,0) and imports in order from head to toe part.

Each p4p is ready to render with simple colors - phong materials

In 3DS each standard material is assigned to an element- each element is a body part or piece of clothing.
Each Material is named for an element - hair:blond, hair:brown, shirt:blue, etc.

It is a similar system redesigned for Max and Viz...

In Max or Viz each person has a Multi/Sub-Object Material with the same name as the person.
The person model [dlsit2] has a Multi/Sub-Object Material "dlsit2". All the people Multi/Sub-Object Materials are stored in the p4p Scene.

the Material Editor shows a few p4p Mulit-Sub/Object materials the child materials in the Material Editor rollout

The Basic Parameters are shown under a rendering of each person in the color reference charts, showing Object name, Multi/Sub-Object Material, sub-objects and the sub-object, Standard Materials in that person.

In fact-this is where you may have to change or replace some Standard materials, if they display too dark or light on your monitor or output device.

The Sub-Object materials are the children materials in each of these and show in the Basic Parameters roll-out.
These are Standard materials and are stored in a p4p1.mat file.

In the Material Editor, browsing a Scene, the people Multi/Sub-Object Materials list in order, just like the Object Names of the people. In Max2 the name of the person follows the Material in brackets.

Expand the "root" or "parent" Material Name and all the Sub-Object Materials for that person (and his or her sub-objects) will list in order from head to toe to wheel.

The other file formats: .dwg for AutoCAD and .zlb for form*Z ship on a separate CD.
